My Sonic Negativity Bias

To say that my experience with Sonic when I younger was "not great" is a understatement. Back then I was left with the idea that Sonic was nothing more then the video game equivalent of B rated movies. The three games shown in the image above were the reason behind that logic.
Sonic the Hedgehog: Genesis (Sonic 1 GBA)
This was my first experience with Sonic. Anyone aware of this port will tell you how bad it is. Even the title feels misleading. The gba has a lower resolution then what the genesis was able to display so you just see less then you would normally which makes you go slow which sucks when the whole idea is "gotta go fast". The frame drops bring the game to a crawl at points. AND THE SOUNDTRACK dont even get me started lol. Here is a playlist of the soundtrack and gameplay if you want to suffer.
This port was an awful introduction into the series, that being said... only my next experience with Sonic could eclipse it.
Sonic the Hedgehog (Sonic 06)
This game gets me genuinely upset. It had potential but was rushed by deadlines so the final result ended up being a dumpster fire that even as a dumb kid with barely any thoughts in my head, I recognized it as said dumpster fire. I remember wasting so much time playing this game with my younger brother and the both of us getting frustrated at dying a ton. The story line is not something I've ever really enjoyed. The controls are garbage and the bugs make it even worse. These are not really the funny kind of bugs but rather enemies shooting you through walls and you falling through the ground and into the void below. Sonic's and Tail's screams will forever be etched into your brain. The graphics look pretty good in certain areas and cinematics... thats the only good thing I have to say about it.
Sonic 3D Blast
I made already made a page about how this game makes people sick. If the gamplay below causes your stomach to get upset/turn, stop watching it and try to limit your playtime with this game. It made me nearly throw up a few times as a kid. After all three of these experiences I was a bit sour to the concept of Sonic.
AtGames Sega Genesis (Firecore)
This is how I played Genesis games as a kid. This thing was absolute trash. I say was because there is not a lot of documentation about this online and I don't have mine anymore. As far as I am concerned this thing is lost to time and this is one of the rare cases where I am glad. Quality control was non existent because this thing was made to be as cheap as possible. The audio is messed up on nearly every console, there is less output jacks then on the real genesis meaning you are stuck with mono audio, most of them came with wireless controllers that used infrared which means you had to have the console in a position where you could get a direct line of sight with the controller's ir blaster. This thing claiming to be a "Sega Genesis" did not help my opinions on Sonic at all. The fact that this thing was approved by Sega is the cherry on top.
I like Sonic now!
Now that I am playing the other original genesis games thanks to the copy of Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection that I found awhile ago and had the chance to play some other decent Sonic games, my opinions on Sonic are a lot more positive. Sonic fans pls don't kill or dox me.
