TW: Violence and death
Charlie Kirk, the CEO of Turning Point USA, was shot in the neck at Utah Valley University yesterday during an event. His last words were the following
Audience member: Do you know how many transgender Americans have been mass shooters over the last 10 years?
Kirk: Too many.
Audience member: Okay, well it's five, okay. Now, five is a lot, right? I'll give you some credit. Do you know how many mass shooters there have been in America over the last 10 years?
Kirk: Counting or not counting gang violence?
Immediately following the words, a single crack rang out as Charlie Kirk recoiled back and blood poured from his neck. The surrounding crowd goes into a panic. How do I know all this? There are multiple videos from a few angles showing what took place that are floating on the internet. He was pronounced dead a few hours after the fact.
He didn't like empathy
If you have been on the internet any time between now and soon after it happened, I'm sure that you are likely very aware that this is a "divisive" topic but let me tell you why it really shouldn't be. I'll start off with the fact that by his own words, he would not want people to feel empathy towards him. Here is a few quotes from him that says so.
"I can't stand the word empathy, actually. I think empathy is a made-up, new age term that — it does a lot of damage." ~ Charlie Kirk on "The Charlie Kirk Show"
"I think it's worth it. I think it's worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights." ~ Charlie Kirk at TPUSA Faith event
I'm not trying to glorify violence by saying all of this, however I don't think empathy is what should be given here. Anyone saying otherwise either doesn't understand who Charlie Kirk was or worse, they do know what all he stood for yet still defend him. He had way more controversial opinions that were harmful to everyone that isn't a white cis man. Here is a quote he had to say about women.
"Young women they don't value children, and this is one of the main reasons we are seeing a fertility collapse in the west." ~ Charlie Kirk on The Ingraham Angle 9/8/25
He had this to say about Taylor Swift
"All kidding and sarcasm aside, this is something that I hope will make Taylor Swift more conservative. Engage in reality more and get outside of the abstract clouds. Reject feminism. Submit to your husband, Taylor. You're not in charge." ~ Charlie Kirk on "The Charlie Kirk Show"
He also said this about his own daughter in a Jubilee youtube video.
Question asker: So if you had a daughter and she was 10 and she got raped and she was going to give birth-
Kirk: Well I do have a daughter
Question asker: and she was going to give birth and she was going to live, would you want her to go through that and carry her rapist's baby -
Kirk: Thats awfuly graphic
Question asker: but it's a real life scenario that happens to many people.
Kirk: The answer is yes the baby will be delivered
I can go on and on about how awful of a person he was but I think you should do a bit of your own research on him if you want to see just how depraved his words and actions were. Just trying to read through what he's said about sexual and racial minorities alone is fucking with my mental health. Don't empathize with or sanitize him postmortemly. His ideas are harmful and any deaths resulting from them are on his hands. This kind of leads me to my next point.

Did you know there was a school shooting at Evergreen High School that went on while Charlie Kirk got shot? 2 students were shot before the shooter (another student) turned the gun on himself. I have empathy for the 2 students shot. I have empathy for all students and staff who have been shot and their friends and family. School shootings happen so often in the USA that they normally get swept under the rug it's so fucked up. The country is so desensitized. Why is this something that we have allowed to become normalized? Why are people like Charlie Kirk allowed to justify it?
I don't think getting rid of guns is the solution, the second amendment exists to resist tyranny which is something we are currently facing in the USA. BUT I also want you to really think about the consequences of his actions. When people like him are given platforms to spread hate and accept awful tragedies like these as the norm, it fucks with us. It makes us collectively less human.
What did Newsom mean by that?
In response to the shooting, Gavin Newsom went to twitter to make an announcement

What does he mean by "continue his work"? Charlie Kirk's "work" was speading false narratives and hate. Things make way more sense when you realize that Gavin Newsom had talked to and was friendly with Charlie Kirk. You might be asking "who is Gavin Newsom?" He is the Governor of California. Newsom has been one of the most prominant figures on combating a bunch of the current regime's bullshit by making tweets mocking Trump and by not complying with EOs. While thats cool and all, he still has the same harmful transphobic ideas that Charlie Kirk had. Pointing this out to heavily democratic social spaces tends to result in them trying to shame you and claim that you are engaging in purity politics. The more and more time goes on, the less and less I trust democrats to do what is right. News alert, trans people aren't going to go back in the closet. Trying to force it means you are complicit in any resulting suicides and acts of desperation. We aren't political pawns to play around with then toss to the floor the moment you get bored, despite democrats treating us as such.
