Why I don't play (most) new games.

Let me start this off by stating that I will go out of my way to play certain new games made by indie devs. I had a blast playing ENA Dream BBQ part 1, I'm probably going to make an archive page for it because it was everything that I could have asked for and I can’t wait for more content to release. A few other somewhat new indie games that I play are webfishing, bomb rush cyberfunk, and lethal company. These are all great games that you should consider playing but that is because they are all fun. I personally play games to have fun. That does not mean I don’t like a challenge in my games, it means I don’t want to deal with the issues that plague modern gaming.

So many options, so little time.

The shift from physical media to digital store fronts has created a sense of FOMO (fear of missing out) Your favorite games could possibly disappear from store fronts and your license to play them get revoked just because the company in charge of them made some arbitrary decision like with ubisoft revoking your access to games that you purchased because you did not log into your ubisoft account within a certain period of time. Don’t let them hold that kind of power over you. With a disc and a console, they can’t do shit. Not only that but there are so many old games that you never have to actually stoop so low as to play modern CoD. Between my Xbox 360 and Wii, the game catalog is so huge that I don’t have to worry about paying $70+ for modern games when I could spend $70 on a few old but really fun games instead. When you add modding and homebrew into the mix, I am able to backup my entire library and store copies of them for archival, I am able to put said archive on a portable SSD and hot swap it between console depending on what I want to play and entirely eliminate the need to use optical media while gaming. I can use these files on any Xbox 360 or Wii too. Try doing this with legitimate copies of games on steam and see what happens.

“Stop living in the past”

Like it or not, these old physical game copies are not going anywhere while digital storefronts prove themselves to be unreliable at best. Now that I’ve stated why physical media is better, here is some of my main gripes with modern AAA games. Money and graphics is the priority while they could care less if the game is actually fun. Putting fancy graphics on a game that is ass to play is like polishing a turd. Graphics should be a nice bonus rather then the main attracting factor. Another thing is that there just isn’t really a whole lot grabbing my attention anymore. Every now and then something indie will pop up that I obsess over for awhile but then I am left to play more old games. Honestly I am fine with that.
