Nazi Punks (Fuck off)
Due to recent events within my country, I have been been listening to more punk music. It always strikes me as malicious when someone claims punk as a genre to not be political despite it always being very upfront and vocal. Nazis seeming to enjoy it are either getting the entirely wrong messages, are actively ignoring what the lyrics mean, or are just going for aesthetics. Yes I know nazi punk is a genre, I have a message for it's musicians (I refuse to call them artists) and listeners!
What is Punk?
Punk is a subculture. It is not something to gatekeep except for when it comes to Fascists and Nazis. Punk is not just music, it is a way of life! Wikipedia at the time of writing this says this "The punk ethos is primarily made up of beliefs such as non-conformity, anti-authoritarianism, anti-corporatism, a do-it-yourself ethic, anti-consumerist, anti-corporate greed, direct action, and not selling out." A lot of us embody this mentality without even trying. The past decade has really pushed these qualities to the forefront in me and I know I am not alone with that.
Aside from ideologies, punk also makes up a bunch of different kinds of music like punk rock, pop punk, crust punk, garage punk and many others.
Punk fashion is a controversial point within the community. My personal stance is that I don't care for it, using it leads to gatekeepers that don't represent the punk culture very well. You can be super punk while wearing a t-shirt and jeans or dressed up in clothes that are meant to fill an aesthetic, just don't make the latter into a issue with your fellow punks. Going after people based on what they are wearing "not being punk enough" goes against the non-conformity that so many of us appreciate.
Punk Songs that I listen to a lot
Notes:
The song called killing in the name isn't technically punk BUT it embodies the ethos of punk so I added it to the playlist
