ULTRAKILL

In development since 2018 and released September 8th 2020 on steam in early access, ULTRAKILL is an indie game that has recently taken over my life. You are a robot trying going through a Dante's Inferno inpsired Hell. You have to move fast and hit hard if you want any chance of survival, let alone whatever your robot (V1) has as an end goal.

The Story

The game starts off by stating the following:

MANKIND IS DEAD
BLOOD IS FUEL
HELL IS FULL

With the death of mankind and presumably all other living beings on earth, robots and other things fueled by blood find themselves in a battle for survival in Hell. Originally being built for war, V1 naturally has an advantage over the other beings inhabiting Hell. That is being able to refuel and repair on the fly via contact with blood. V1 and similar models have insane levels of mobility and when combined with a full arsenal, loads of destructive capibilities. Over it's time in Hell, V1 gains a notorious reputation which makes all of the locals attack it on sight. The locals consist of machines, husks, demons, and angels.

Machines are the creation of mankind. They use blood as fuel, though most do not refuel via contact with it unlike V1. Despite being relics of the past, they remain and persist. Their struggle for survival led them to Hell.

Husks are the physical manifestations of the souls of the damned. What form a soul takes depends on multiple factors. Weak-willed souls manifest into Lesser Husks. Greater Husks are still weak-willed but have special conditions for their classification such as multiple souls attempting to manifest in the same location or single soul manifestations that have been modified. Supreme Husks manifest from strong-willed souls.

Demons are generally made out of hell mass. There are exceptions to this.

Angels are beings that are from Heaven. Lesser Angels are souls of humans that were allowed into Heaven. Their manifestations are abstract. Greater and Surpeme Angles were created in humanoid forms and originate from Heaven. God used to command them, but he disappeared at some point.

Gameplay

This game plays like John Romaro's weird chaotic fever dream. This game would actually kill a victorian child. It would drop DEAD just like Daikatana did. The other day I accidentally parried Tina's boob thats how ingrained into my brain the gameplay has become. If I were to describe the gameplay loop, you would look at the screen in terror just like how you would look at a biblically accurate angel. It is incomprehensible to people who have never experienced it before. Seriously I parried her boob I'm not joking.

How to play

The demo is available on Steam and itch.io, the full game costs $24.99 and is only available on Steam. The dev has said that he is cool with people pirating the game. Despite this, I think you really should try the demo and if you like it, make the purchase. I really shouldn't have bought it but too late for regrets (except for when I lay in bed and realize I have no more money)

Tips and Tricks

  • Blood heals you
  • You will learn how to parry everything (Your physical form will learn too)
  • The game is DRM free after installation with Steam
  • The game runs on Windows 7
  • To the insignificant fuck who stole my bike
