Me and Tina went out shopping yesterday and found live plants for sale in front of a grocery store. They were selling lemon grass, peppermint, and spearmint. It's been hot recently and all these plants were sitting out in the sun + didn't seem to be watered. The lemon grass was in terrible condition to the point that none of them looked salvageable. However, the mints were managing a bit better. They were showing signs of heat stress and the soil was extremely dry but we found a spearmint and peppermint that seemed to be managing better then the others and decided to buy them. We took them home and watered them

Today I trimmed as much of the bad leaves as I safely could off the peppermint and harvested some of the spearmint. This is what they look like now.

You might notice some cut up leaves on top of the soil, rather then tossing them I decided to not let them go to waste and return their nutrients to the soil. They are both mints so I think it should not cause problems.

I made up some spearmint tea with the leaves that I harvested, Tina seemed to really like it which is good. The intention behind getting them was to be able to make tea so I'm glad its working out for that. In 2-3 weeks hopefully there will be enough growth for me to finish pruning the peppermint and harvest some more spearmint!

I know it's not much to start but having these plants has made me pretty happy. I've been babying them. I plan on adding more to the garden of course but that will come with time.

Side note: For those of you in the US and on SNAP, you can buy seeds and live plants if they produce herbs, vegetables, or fruit with SNAP. HOWEVER you can't buy soil or pots. It's annoying but whatever. At least I can get live plants and stock up on seeds for now.
